Dorsal Anterior Cingulate and Anterior Insula computations during threat avoidance in Humans

Project Summary Anxiety disorders are the most common mental illnesses in the world. One in 14 people worldwide currently suffer from dysregulated anxiety. People with dysregulated anxiety report poor quality of life, loss of independence and are at an increased risk of suicide attempts. A key component of anxiety disorder is a persistent and disruptive state of aversion, high arousal, and negatively valenced perception even in the absence of threat. Remarkably, up to 30 percent of those who suffer from anxiety disorders do not respond to currently available pharmacologic and behavioral therapies.
