Deconstruction of a Hypothalamic Exercise-responsive Circuit for Neuroprotection
PROJECT SUMMARY Exercise slows the cognitive declines associated with aging and protects against the development and progression of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease (AD). At the cellular level, exercise enhances synaptic connectivity and reduces markers of neuroinflammation in aging cortical circuits. Exactly how exercise signals in the brain generate these neuroprotective effects remains unknown.
