Creating water-smart landscapes
By 2050 the world’s population will reach 9 to 10 billion, which means that food production must increase significantly. Therefore, it will be necessary to sustainably intensify agriculture by increasing yields while simultaneously decreasing the environmental impacts. Nature-based solutions (NbS) such as wetlands and riparian buffer strips can efficiently reduce the nutrient runoff from agricultural catchments.
