ResIntegrate: Integrating and predicting resilience of ecological systems to multiple disturbances
Understanding the mechanisms that enable ecological systems to resist and recover from disturbances—or transition to alternative states—is essential for forecasting biodiversity trends and ensuring sustainable development. Resilience, a system’s ability to respond to disturbances, has been a focus of ecological research since the 1970s. However, critical gaps remain in our understanding of how resilience to multiple interacting disturbances emerges, scales across levels of biological organisation, and shapes ecological structure and dynamics.
