Network meta-analysis is an extension of pairwise meta-analysis and is considered the highest possible level of clinical evidence. However, the increasing complexity and the evolving nature of recent public health questions impose new challenges that cannot be addressed by existing evidence synthesis approaches, such as complexity of new interventions, environmental and socio-political changes, or new technologies and misinformation.
