Regulation of extreme plasticity in planarian stem cells by mRNA modifications
PlanaPioneering studies on post-transcriptional modifications of mRNA have revealed a hidden layer of regulatory complexity. The most abundant mRNA modification, N6-methyladenosine (m6A), regulates critical cellular processes and it is found in a huge diversity of Eukaryotes. Despite pivotal roles of m6A in development, only few animal models are available for m6A research. We poorly understand what cellular and intercellular factors modulate the RNA methylome, and how do changes in the cellular RNA methylome affect organism-level processes.
